Free Print-Making Workshop at the Center for Contemporary Printmaking. Sunday, August 21 from 1:30 – 4:00 p.m. Learn the basics of linocut relief printmaking in this FREE, drop-in workshop. The word “linocut” refers to the medium and the action of this printmaking method. “Lino”, short for linoleum, is the material in which an artist may “cut” into to create a printable image. Using sharp tools to carve away the non-printing area of the image, the remaining untouched linoleum will accept ink to then print onto paper. This event is open to the public on a drop in basis at any time between 1:30 and 4:00 p.m. This activity is estimated to take 20 to 30 minutes to complete, but participants are welcome to stay as long as they like. RSVP at https://bit.ly/3BW7qhu is encouraged but not required. The Center for Contemporary Printmaking is located in Mathews Park, 299 West Ave. More info at www.contemprints.org. @contemprints

Haven Hot Chicken Coming to Norwalk. Haven Hot Chicken is growing again. The restaurant specializing in Nashville hot chicken (and vegetarian "not chicken" options) will open its third location in Norwalk, with plans for a 2,500-square-foot restaurant at 596 Westport Ave. Like its first two spots in New Haven and Orange, Haven Hot Chicken will offer crispy fried chicken and fried cauliflower in five different spice levels, ranging from no-heat "country" to "Haven" ("for the hot head."). Menu items include sandwiches, tenders, sliders and chicken and waffles, and sides like fries, creamy vinegar slaw, garlic-dill pickles, mac and cheese, and banana pudding. A snack list features sliders and fried cauliflower nuggets, and Haven also runs seasonal, limited-time only specials, like a recent "hot chicken parm" with red sauce, mozzarella and spicy cherry pepper relish. While the first two restaurants focus on takeout and delivery, the Norwalk location will also offer dine-in seating for about 25 guests. "We are excited to put down roots in this new area, with a convenient quick-stop location offering ample parking and a large delivery area for residential addresses, hotels and office buildings,” said co-founder Rob LaTronica. www.havenhotchicken.com @havenhotchicken

Pickleball, Anyone? In a show of pickleball power, beginners and pros are filling up the new pickleball courts in Norwalk. Pickleball has exploded in popularity in the U.S. over the last few years, and Connecticut is no different. The City of Norwalk opened its first four dedicated pickleball courts July 26 to give residents a local place to try the game for themselves. Pickleball players can now enjoy the new courts at Woodward Avenue Park. One of two tennis courts was converted into four pickleball courts to cater to the explosion of popularity the sport saw over the pandemic. Mayor Harry Rilling got in on a ceremonial first volley. He says he used to be an avid tennis player, but pickleball is more his speed now. Pickleball pros say the game is perfect for the retired set but over the past few years, its appeal has gotten much broader. Within minutes of opening, all four courts were filled with beginners, picking up a game that's more about vision and positioning than strength or speed. Rilling says he's going to be looking for other locations for more pickleball courts in town. Learn more at https://bit.ly/3oTt9Pj. @norwalkrecreation
