Walk • Learn • Write • Connect
Register now for the first FREE Poetry Walk Workshop with Norwalk Poet Laureate Katie Schneider and Melissa Slattery. This 2-hour curated walking and writing workshop combines walking with investigation and discovery of a range of sites. We’ll collect a set of creative writing prompts and find unexpected inspiration along the way. Before the walk concludes, participants will have time for writing and sharing. Poets and writers at all levels are welcome! Start location is at the head of the Harbor Loop Trail, located behind Lockwood-Mathews Mansion, adjacent to the tennis courts. We’ll walk a 2-mile+ loop through historic Pine Island Cemetery and Oyster Shell Park, exploring points of interest along the way. We’ll meet featured poets Laurel S. Peterson and Sahmra K. Sawyer. Both will share poems and offer prompts for writing inspiration. We’ll enjoy short informational chats with members of the Norwalk Tree Alliance and the Pollinator Pathways team, taking inspiration from their work. Water and light refreshments will be provided. The walk has short stretches of uneven and hilly terrain. We will be making a safe crossing over railroad tracks. Fitness for a beginner level hike is recommended. All are welcome to attend. Children above the age of 12 who are interested in poetry and writing are welcome. There is ample FREE parking in the back parking lot at Mathews Park by the tennis courts. Porta-potty is available on site. Wear good walking shoes, hats and sunscreen. Bring a notebook and something to write with. Register at https://bit.ly/3G0d1Yo.
