Winter Activities for Kids

L.I.F.T. Arts Classes for ages 6-18. The L.I.F.T Foundation (Learning Is Fun, Too), in partnership with the Department of Recreation & Parks, is offering winter classes from January 9 – February 15, in Podcasting, Hip-Hop Dance, Acting, Digital Music, and Vocals.  Classes will begin Tuesday, January 9 and held at SONO Entertainment (56 N. Main St.).

Kids’ Drawing & Mixed-Media Classes for ages 5-8, on Wednesdays from 4:00 – 5:00 p.m., at Norwalk Senior Center, Classroom A (11 Allen Rd.). Session 1 (6 lessons) from January 10 – February 14. Session 2 (6 lessons) from March 6 – April 10. Students will learn to draw what they see, using markers, watercolors, pastels and other media. All materials included.

Youth Yoga for ages 9-13. Wednesdays, January 10 – February 14, from 4:15 – 5:00 p.m., at the Norwalk Senior Center Gymnasium (11 Allen Rd.). 6 sessions on January 10, 17, 24, 31; February 7, 14. This class is designed to provide pre-teens with practical tools to enhance their physical and emotional wellbeing. Students will learn yoga postures, breathing techniques and focusing exercises in a playful and welcoming environment. Please bring a yoga mat.

Hoop Girls “Whirl the World” for Grades 1-4, on Saturdays, January 13 – March 9, from 11:30 a.m. – 12:30 p.m., at the Norwalk Senior Center Gymnasium (11 Allen Rd.). Eight sessions: January 13, 20, 27; February 3, 10, 24; March 2,9. Girls will have a whirl of a time while hooping it up to their favorite pop tunes, with opportunities to perform in parades, talent shows and more.

High School Hoops Open Gym for Grades 9-12 (Norwalk residents only).  Fridays, January 19 – March 8, from 6:45 – 9:30 p.m., at Ben Franklin Gym (165 Flax Hill Rd.). 8 sessions on January 19, 26; February 2, 9, 16, 23; March 1, 8. Students in high school are invited for some friendly competition in our drop-in basketball program. Bring your own basketball. Players must be registered to participate.

Sew Happy Sewing Classes for Grades 1-5. Thursdays, February 8 – April 4, from 4:30 – 5:30 p.m., at Norwalk City Hall, Room 225, Conference Room B (125 East Ave.). 8 sessions on February 8, 15, 29; March 7, 14, 21, 28; April 4. Simple sewing lessons allow kids to express themselves through their hands, as they create beautiful projects, while improving their math, thinking and coordination skills.
