
Veterans’ Memorial Day Ceremonies
169 Norwalk residents paid the supreme sacrifice while serving their country from World War II to present. To learn about them, click here.
Flag-Placing Ceremony on Saturday, May 17 from 9:30 a.m. – 1:00 p.m. at St. John Cemetery, 223 Richards Ave.
Schedule of events: 9:30 – 10:00 refreshments; 10:00 National Anthem, Pledge of Allegiance, and Taps; guest speaker is Medal of Honor recipient Jim McCloughan who served in the same unit as Norwalk’s Daniel J. Shea who also received the Medal of Honor and is buried in St. John Cemetery. King Industries in Norwalk purchases flags to be placed at veterans’ gravesites in Norwalk. Attendees are welcome to take boxes of flags to cemeteries in the city.
Norwalk’s Annual Veterans Memorial Ceremony on Sunday, May 18 from 12:30 – 2:00 p.m. at Shea-Magrath Memorial, Calf Pasture Beach Rd.
Schedule of events: 12:30 – 1:00 concert by the Fairfield County Brass Quartet; 1:00 National Anthem and Pledge of Allegiance; guest speaker is Medal of Honor recipient Jim McCloughan, who served in the same unit as Norwalk’s Daniel J. Shea, who also received the Medal of Honor. The ceremony will honor both John Magrath and Daniel Shea with a wreath laying at the memorial., as well as honor the Navy and Merchant Marines who died at sea while in the service of their country.
