The Maritime Aquarium Celebrates World Ocean Weekend

Saturday, June 8, and Sunday, June 9

Guests are invited to explore the wonders of the ocean with special activities on Saturday, June 8, and Sunday, June 9. World Ocean Weekend is the Aquarium’s extended celebration of World Ocean Day, which is held annually on June 8. It is a day dedicated to informing the public about the impact of human actions on the ocean and encouraging sustainable management of our blue planet. All weekend, guests will be encouraged to share what they love about Long Island Sound. Hands-on learning experiences lead by the Aquarium’s Education Department will deepen understanding of environmental issues and prepare individuals to comment on the Long Island Sound Study’s Comprehensive Conservation and Management Plan, which will steer conservation funding decisions for the next 10 years.

Special Activities on Saturday, June 8:

  • 9:00 – 10:00 a.m.: Exclusive members-only hour for members and four additional guests above their membership level.
  • 11:00 a.m. – 1:00 p.m.: Upcycled Tees with the Center for Contemporary Printmaking – a nonprofit printmaking studio, workshop and gallery in Norwalk. To participate in this activity, guests should bring an old shirt or cloth item to the Aquarium to upgrade with a new screen-printed design.
  • 11:00 a.m. – 3:00 p.m.: Free face painting for all guests.

Special Activities on Sunday, June 9:
