“Where Do We Go From Here?”

New Exhibition “Where Do We Go From Here?” at The Norwalk Art Space. August 18 – October 13

Featuring Korry Fellow Iyaba Ibo Mandingo and invited artists Greg Aime, Jean Benoit, Elisha Brockenberry, Meighan Morrison, David Sepulveda and Zane St. Juste. The opening reception will be held on Thursday, August 18 from 6:00 – 9:00 p.m. and will feature the debut performance of “Where Do We Go From Here?” (The Long Way Home), a spoken word and music performance by Iyaba Ibo Mandingo and Heshima Moya from 7:00 – 7:30 p.m. As part of the exhibition, The Norwalk Art Space will host an Artist Talk on Sunday, August 28 from 2:00-3:30pm. Moderated by David Green, Executive Director of the Cultural Alliance of Fairfield County, the talk will include all seven artists and will offer Q&A time. Mandingo will also teach a 2-day Artist Workshop on West Afrikan Puppetry on September17 & 18 from 11:00 a.m. – 2:00 pm (both days). 15 spots are available for students 7 – 18 years old, and registration is required (www.thenorwalkartspace.org/book-online). In this workshop, students will make masks using recycled materials, each with a personality that will become a character. This 2-day workshop will culminate with a Puppet Presentation, free to the public on Sunday, September 18 at 2:00 p.m. The next two Creative Happy Hours at The Norwalk Art Space, on Thursday, August 25 and Thursday, September 15 from 6:00 – 8:00 p.m. will be hosted by Iyaba Ibo Mandingo and will feature poets from the surrounding area. During the Creative Happy Hour on September 15, there will be a fashion show with the work of local designers interspersed between poet performers. The Norwalk Art Space, located at 455 West Ave., is free to all visitors. The museum and its Art Space Cafe are open Wednesday – Friday from 8:00 a.m. – 3:00 p.m., and Saturday & Sunday from 9:00 a.m. – 3:00 p.m. Overflow parking lots are available at 370 West Ave. (enter on Maple Street) and at Mathews Park, 295 West Ave. (park in the back lot).
