Gilded Tables: The Art of Food and Dining in Edith Wharton’s New York
Sunday, April 23 from 2:00 – 4:00 p.m.
The Lockwood-Mathews Mansion Museum will feature a lecture by renowned social and culinary historian Carl Raymond, host of the popular podcast, “The Gilded Gentleman.” This lecture will be held at Stepping Stones Museum for Children’s Multimedia Gallery. Light refreshments will be offered following the presentation. In this illustrated talk, Carl Raymond, a Wharton specialist, takes us into the world of food and dining in Gilded Age New York. It’s in the details of architecture, fashion, and social customs, that Wharton’s gives us her revealing portrait of society. The details of food and dining in her work are no different, we are brought into the dinners and balls and often feel that we, too, as readers are seated at the table. To reserve tickets, attendees can visit the Events page on the Museum’s website at www.lockwoodmathewsmansion.com.
